Steven Zynszajn has received high praise for his expressive musicianship and beautiful sound on the violin. Described in American Record Guide as “a virtuoso” possessing “nearly infallible intonation and highly refined musicianship”, he has performed throughout Europe and the United States at such venues as Alice Tully Hall and Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York, Orchestra Hall in Chicago, and the UNESCO Auditorium in Paris. He received the “Prix d’Honneur” at the Leopold Bellan Competition in Paris as its youngest laureate.
In demand as a concerto soloist, he has appeared with numerous orchestras including the Manhattan Symphonie, Bergen Symphony, Greater Newburgh Symphony, Aspen Festival Young Artists Orchestra, Lautreamont Chamber Orchestra, Brooklyn Philharmonia Chorus and Levallois Orchestra in France, in concertos ranging from Bach and Mozart to Mendelssohn, Wieniawski, Goldmark, Sibelius and Brahms. He was showcased in the off-Broadway play “Two”, performing movements of the Beethoven Violin Concerto.
Steven Zynszajn has been presented in recitals at the Chicago Cultural Center in the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Series, the Dweck Auditorium in the Brooklyn Library’s Classical Interludes series, in “The September Concert” at the French Consulate, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center’s “Wednesdays at One”, and recitals at Steinway Hall and Merkin Hall in New York. He performed a special concert at the Singer-Polignac Foundation in Paris for the Centennial of the birth of Nadia Boulanger, and played at the international music festivals of Annecy and Colmar.
He is the founder and director of Lautreamont Concerts, an international ensemble of musicians formerly in residence at the Chelsea Art Museum in Manhattan. As a lover of many different forms of music, he has been a member of the early Jazz ensemble “Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks” and the tango music quintet “Tango Francesito”.
Steven Zynszajn’s debut CD recording of works by Fauré, Goldmark, Kreisler, Wieniawski and Ysaÿe was recently released on the Eroica label. Critics have praised its “rock solid technique…mature musicianship…and emotional emphasis to every note…”. Radio broadcasts include Radio Classique in France, WNYC in New York, Radio Paradise in California, and a live recital on WFMT Chicago. He was also selected by the Juilliard School to appear on “Good Morning America” on ABC.
Born to French parents in Chicago, Steven Zynszajn grew up in Paris where he completed his studies at the Paris National Conservatoire with Devy Erlih and Alexis Galperine. He was awarded an Artist Diploma at the Juilliard School as a scholarship student of Dorothy DeLay and Hyo Kang. Upcoming engagements include recitals at the Saugerties Pro Musica in Saugerties, NY, and return appearances with the Manhattan Symphony at Bargemusic and the Classical Interludes series at the Brooklyn Central Library. Mr. Zynszajn plays on a Cremonese violin made in the 18th century by Aegidius Barzellini, a pupil of Nicolo Amati. He currently resides in New York.
